Backend Engineer

To keep up with our ambitions, we’re expanding the team with a Backend Engineer at the heart of a product-driven company, collaborating closely with fellow engineers, product managers, and designers to create solutions that truly make a difference.

The position is based in Oslo, valid work permit for Norway is required.

As a Backend Engineer at Spond, you will help us scale, optimize and innovate our platform. Create cutting-edge, scalable modern architecture that processes over 1 billion requests per week. You will have the freedom to experiment with new technologies while playing a key role in optimizing existing services. 

To succeed in this role, you will benefit from having a strong interest in microservices architecture, experience with Java (Spring Boot, JPA), and a passion for writing clean, maintainable, and efficient code. We are looking for someone who takes ownership of solutions, understands the product and user journey, and sees the bigger picture of how technology and business align. Your work will involve:

• Developing and scaling backend microservices in Java (Spring Boot, JPA) on AWS/Kubernetes
• Optimizing system performance and scalability for a high-traffic platform
• Implementing CI/CD and DevOps practices, including CircleCI, ArgoCD, Terraform
• Collaborating closely with product and UX teams to ensure technical solutions provide real user value
• Exploring and implementing new technologies such as Go, gRPC, Redis, OpenAP
• Troubleshooting, debugging, and monitoring systems to ensure seamless operation
  
  

We are looking for someone who:

• Has strong experience in backend development and microservices architecture
• Is comfortable with cloud-native technologies, especially AWS and Kubernetes
• Has experience with CI/CD, DevOps, and infrastructure as code
• Thinks holistically about product development, beyond just writing code
• Works independently, takes initiative, and can drive projects forward without micromanagement
